In 2022 King’s College Hospital made a bid to the Greener NHS Healthy Futures Fund for an inhaler recycling pilot at King's. The Greener NHS team supported the idea for the project and asked for expansion across the South East London Integrated Care System. Secondary care sites working with community pharmacies encourage patients to return their used or expired inhalers to pharmacies. These inhalers are then sent to specialist waste facilities to recycle all components of the inhaler.

As the impacts of climate change increase, we have seen more frequent surface water flooding in the borough, putting further pressure on our sewer system, which had not been designed to cope with recent increases in rainfall. Creating Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) schemes such as Soak Up Lambeth will help reduce the current and future impacts of climate change on flood risk.
The Lambeth Council Tree Planting programme has its roots in the Urban Forest Strategy. Its aim is to increase the average canopy cover across the borough from 17% to 20%. By planting many more trees in the borough, this will tackle some of the negative impacts of climate change.
High up-front costs can be a barrier for people to start cycling. Instead, Bike Markets, supported by Lambeth Council, offer people the chance to purchase a used bike that has been serviced by a professional mechanic for a reasonable price. Bike Markets also offer people a place to donate their unwanted bikes to a good cause; thus, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill by encouraging upcycling of these products.
Effra Green Streets is a collective borne out of the Lambeth branch of the national charity ‘Living Streets.’ It was set up to do something practical to improve the public realm, through greening the area and supporting changes to highways infrastructure brought about by Lambeth Council’s Sustainable Transport initiatives.
