Incredible Edible Lambeth has a new network manager to build an empowered, connected and skilled network of food growers in Lambeth.

The Challenge

Incredible Edible Lambeth (opens in a new window)'s (IEL) vision is that everyone can grow food within 100 metres of their home in Lambeth. So far, the borough has 120 groups and 550 individuals supporting food growing – a volunteer workforce that has huge potential to improve Lambeth residents' health and access to healthy, affordable food.

This ambition also supports the borough’s Climate Action Plan (opens in a new window) goal of increasing the consumption of healthy plant-based food in Lambeth through procurement power, individual and organisational choices by 2030, as part of the Waste, Consumption and Food theme.

To support this work, IEL reached out to local food growers, listening to their experiences, and many said they need more resources, support, and capacity-building to sustain or grow their projects.

IEL is now putting together a programme of outreach, co-design and training over the next five years to catalyse a stronger network and build member capacity through upskilling, sharing good practice and resources.

Action Taken

So far, IEL has employed a dedicated network manager to build relationships with Lambeth’s 120 food-growing groups, research their needs, and co-design an upskilling programme tailored to them.

As part of this role, the new network manager, Charlotte Dove, is being hosted by Lambeth Council’s Climate Change and Sustainability team throughout 2026 to build connections with other council employees and raise the profile of food growing across different services.

What can I do to help?

You can make your home or workplace cooler by improving insulation, adding shutters to windows, painting your roof and walls white, and increasing greenery

Opt for energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs to cut down on electricity use. Make it a habit to turn off lights and electronics when not in use, and unplug chargers to prevent phantom energy consumption.

Take steps to fix leaks in faucets and pipes, and install water-saving appliances and fixtures. Incorporate water conservation practices into your daily routine, such as turning off taps when not needed.

Consider using public transportation, carpooling, or ridesharing to reduce your carbon footprint. If possible, opt for fuel-efficient or electric vehicles, and explore alternative modes of transportation like walking or biking

Explore options like solar panels or wind turbines for home energy. Choose energy providers that prioritize renewable sources, and advocate for policies that encourage the use of clean energy.

Reduce meat consumption, particularly red meat, and opt for locally sourced and sustainably produced foods. Consider adopting a vegetarian or vegan diet to lower your environmental impact

Share information on climate change and its impacts with friends and family. Encourage sustainable practices, and support educational initiatives in your community to raise awareness.
