Lambeth’s Big Shift programme has launched phase 4 of the Community Parklets project and is accepting new applications.
Applications are now open for Phase 4 of the Community Parklets project. Neighbourhoods across Lambeth are invited to submit a proposal for a new community parklet to help reallocate curbside space for our communities.
Community Parklets allow people to take ownership of their streets and create spaces that suit local needs. A parklet can provide a rest stop for people travelling down the street, an opportunity for community food growing, or a space for community gatherings. As part of the Kerbside Strategy, the Parklets project is helping reallocate kerbside space away from just being parking spaces and towards greener and more community-focused uses.
Successful applicants become Parklet Keepers who help maintain the parklets. This involves doing day-to-day tasks like watering and weeding the planters or reporting any larger issues to the council.
To start the application process, residents must first get the support of their neighbourhoods and fill out the neighbourhood support form. We ask that applicants only apply for the spot outside of their own house or that they have the consent of the residents of the space the parklet would be outside of.
